As a Head Coach, Declan has managed Waikato FC in the ASB Premiership and Melville United where he led them to the 2003 Chatham Cup Final. In 2016, Declan served a Head Coach of the Vanuatu U20 National Team taking them through Oceania World Cup Qualifiers and achieving a birthplace in the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup in South Korea. He currently serves as Olé’s Technical Director and the 1st Team Head Coach at Western Suburbs Football Club.
Declan currently holds the New Zealand International Team Coaching Licence, New Zealand and Australian Football Federation “C Licenses” and is on track to earning the Oceania “A Licence.”
Olé Football Academy is Declan’s platform to continue, and build upon, the player development project he started nearly a decade ago with a group of 11-12 year olds in Hamilton, NZ. The same group produced the likes of Ryan Thomas (PEC Zwolle, Dutch Eredevisie), Tyler Boyd (Vitoria SC, Portuguese Primera), Harry Edge (Amatuks, South African Premier Soccer League), Jesse Edge (Auckland City FC, NZ U-20) and many others still continuing their football journeys in New Zealand and on scholarships at U.S universities.
“Everyone knows Declan Edge, and if not, by now have definitely heard of him. He’s our Technical Director. That’s football jargon for the person in charge of your child’s football curriculum. Ask anyone who knows Declan and they’ll tell you, he lives and breathes football and has endless energy for developing people and players. Olé couldn’t ask for anyone better to fill his role, period.”
