Ben Sippola | Technical Director
Originally from Minnesota, Ben Sippola is entering his ninth year at Olé. Ben is the Academy Technical Director and Head Coach of Western Suburbs FC. Ben holds an OFC/NZF B-License.
After attending the Shattuck St Mary’s Centre of Excellence, Ben went on to graduate from Butler University, where he spent 4 years playing NCAA Division 1 Men’s Soccer. Ben was a 3 year Captain, First-Team All-American, First-Team Academic All-American, Horizon League Player of the Year, Horizon League Offensive Player of the Year and semi–finalist for the 2010 Hermann Trophy, awarded to college soccer’s top player.
A former professional player, Ben was a Major League Soccer Draft Pick, taken 30th overall by the Columbus Crew in the supplemental draft. He then went on to play professionally in Scandinavia before arriving in New Zealand. Ben played for Torslanda IK (Sweden), where he was also integral in helping the the academy expand its operations, acting as a platform for numerous Olé Football Academy players to land in Europe.
Ben has extensive involvement across the Academy, working with players from Juniors to First Team, educating coaches and overseeing Olé player placement and pathway management.
Ben coached Western Suburbs FC to the 2019 Central League title with one of the youngest squads to date, and was named Capital Football 2019 Coach of the Year. His Central League Head Coaching record to date is 40W-5L-5D. Ben is the three-time Head Coach of Team Wellington Youth, and a Consultant/Assistant Coach for Eastern Suburbs AFC during the 2021 National League campaign. Ben was also instrumental in Vanuatu’s 2017 U20 World Cup Qualifying campaign where he was unanimously voted campaign manager by the Vanuatu Football Federation. Ben is also a member of New Zealand Football’s U17/U20 National Team Regional Talent Centre staff.
A young, innovative and inspiring coach, Ben has been involved in the development of multiple New Zealand internationals and professional players who have come through Olé. His devotion, relational approach to coaching and love for cultivating learning environments for young people is a unique asset for Olé Football Academy.
