Blair has been collaborating with Olé in and around their academy since 2020. He recently came on board full-time after successfully planning and launching the Olé x Wanaka AFC Academy. Originally from Dunedin, Blair and his family have been residents of Central Otago for 15 years, and he is now based in Wānaka.
As a FIFA/NZF C-license Level Coach, Blair leads the Wānaka Academy as Head Trainer while also overseeing operations & communications. He is a former professional player who has played in Northern Ireland, Germany, and the United States, and also had brief stints in Sweden and Australia. Blair had an impressive national league career domestically and represented New Zealand at age group level. He captained the NZ U20’s and NZ U23’s and made his debut for the All Whites in 2000.
Blair was recently appointed Player/Coach of the Men’s 1st Team at Wanaka AFC, which plays in the Southern Premiership League. The team aspires to gain promotion to the South Island League in 2023.
Blair is passionate about creating learning environments for aspiring Kiwi players, with a focus on player development and pathways. He brings his experience, energy, and creativity to his sessions, ensuring players are engaged and learning on a daily basis. As Jurgen Klopp once said, “To create a situation where everybody feels important, enjoys themselves, knows their jobs, feels respected and feels needed – that’s how life should be.”
Blair is currently underway with completing the OFC/NZF B License Coaching Qualification Exam.
