Olé is excited to welcome a new coach to the team, Mikey Faber!
If he looks a little familiar, it’s probably because he is! Mikey has been training at Olé Football Academy and playing with Western Suburbs FC since he was around 15 years old.
After developing through the academy, and playing for the First Team, Mikey left us to pursue the opportunity to play football and attend university in the United States.
Mikey has spent the last four years studying Business Management at the University of Texas, Rio Grande Valley, where he also played Division 1 Men’s Soccer.
Each year, during his university break, Mikey has returned home to New Zealand to visit family and play with his teammates here at Olé and Western Suburbs Football Club.
Now that he’s completed his studies and he’s back in New Zealand, Mikey has come on board as part of the Olé coaching staff, bringing with him some great experience from overseas.
“We brought Mikey on board based on his understanding of the Olé learning framework and playing system, having come through as a player himself. He brings a great relational component to coaching and has an ability to connect with players that will be an added dimension to the value he brings to the Olé environment on and off the pitch,” said Olé Technical Director, Ben Sippola.
Mikey shared that he wanted to return to Olé as a coach because it is a place which shares a lot his own values. He also loves being in a football environment and feels like the people involved with Olé are like his second family.
“I’m loving it thus far! The staff are great, super fun environment, the holistic learning is second to none and the kids are great, I love working with the kids,” said Mikey.
Welcome, Mikey! Olé is stoked to have you back!
