Olé Football Academy are making some changes to Grassroots programmes in the coming weeks! Here’s some info about what’s happening….
Cannons Creek Football League
Olé FA will now be running its very own football league for children in Porirua!
This is designed to be a pathway from our Football in Schools programmes, Street Football events and Skill Builders, we’ve had lots of feedback from schools, children and families that they want to the opportunity to take their new skills further and transition into a more game-based environment.
This will be an entry level/grassroots league so that children can get a feel for what it’s like to play football in a team against opposition, with goals, scoring and draws. There will still be an emphasis on learning, developing skills and fun.
The league will be on Tuesdays after school from 4-5pm at Cannons Creek Park. It will be a 5-a-side league, and teams will play 2x 20 min games each week. It will run during Term 2 and 3, starting Tuesday 7 May.
The league is for children in Years 5 – 8 at school. There are lots of different ways to enter! You can to enter a whole team, or enter through your school. If you are an individual player looking for a team, then Olé FA can place you in a team with some other children of a similar age.
Skill Builders
We have had a great first term of Skill Builders this year! However, for Term 2 and 3, the Cannons Creek Football League will replace Skill Builders altogether.
During the wet, cold, windy winter, we have found that attendance for Skill Builders drops significantly lower. We have decided to make it part of the Olé FA summer programme only, meaning it will just run during Term 1 and 4. So we’ll be back when the weather is warmer!
All Skill Builders are more than welcome to be part of the Cannons Creek Football League – just get in touch, and Olé will make sure you have a team to play in.
Street Football and Football in Schools
These will both be continuing as usual! We’ll be at Waitangirua Mall on the first Friday of every month with Street Football – our next one is Friday 3 May.
In Term 2 we will be running Football in Schools in Corinna School, Glenview School and Holy Family School. We still have a couple of spots left for schools in Term 3 and 4 – let us know if you’re interested!
