Jake Gleeson is used to getting into games on short notice.
The Portland Timbers’ backup goalkeeper came into Saturday’s match against the San Jose Earthquakes in the 50th minute, after starter Adam Kwarasey left with a finger injury.
Gleeson responded with a solid performance in the 3-1 win. He gave up the goal, which came on a penalty kick from Chris Wondolowski, in extra time.
“You always have to be ready,” Gleeson said on Tuesday. “This is what you train every day for.”
