Friday, January 20th 2017 – Olé Football Academy graduate and Western Suburbs FC star Tyler Lissette has signed his first professional contract with Swedish club IFK Värnamo. Lissette, 25, is a versatile defender able to play both in the centre and on the left and is described as tall and powerful yet fast and responsive for his size.
“Tyler was with us in November on trial, we got a good opinion of him, so good that we asked if he wanted to come to us again and show his skills for the new coaching staff. Tyler came here from New Zealand without any promises of contracts, which shows how much he loves the club and how passionate he is about this. We are very satisfied.” says IFK Värnamo Sporting Director Tomas Lundqvist.
The distance between New Zealand and Värnamo is nothing to Tyler Lissette but a minor obstacle.
“What is the distance in today’s world? I got a fantastic reception in November when I was here trialling. The club, the guys in the team, the facilities – everything was great and so well organised. When I went home, we continued to keep in touch. I was very pleased and a little surprised when I was asked if I wanted to come back to Värnamo and train with the new coach.” Lissette told the club’s website. “It’s amazing how everyone helps me with translations so I really understand the exercises and do them right. Everybody is very helpful, I think it’s a great bunch of guys to practice and play with.”
