It was a huge weekend of football to kick the season off! Here’s a summary of the action.
Women’s Kelly Cup Semi-Final
The Western Suburbs Women’s First Team came up against Seatoun AFC in the Kelly Cup semi-final. Both teams put in a good game, with chances coming at both ends. A locked-up score of 1-1 at full-time put them into an extra 30 minute spell, but the score didn’t change. Suburbs ladies had great penalty shoot-out with an spic save from the GK and some beautifully placed shots to take the win!
The girls will be up against Waterside Karori in the Kelly Cup final after they beat Victoria University in the other semi-final.
Men’s Capital Premier
A very young Western Suburbs Reserve team came out on top in their first Capital Premier match against Tawa AFC. The boys were staunch, with some great group defending. Tu Reedy Dunn and Liam Gillion held strong in the midfield. Josh Larking and Jameel Ali both looking dangerous in the transition from the back into attacking play. Wests have notched up 3 points with their 2-0 win and secured the Don Fenton Memorial Trophy! Both goals to Michael Fraser.
Men’s Central League
Another young team out to begin the Men’s Central League season for Wests, up against Miramar Rangers, the boys put in a great team performance. Miramar were tough opponents, so coming away with a 3-0 win was a dream start! Two goals from set pieces – one to Robi Sabo and another a deflection from a corner, the third a beautiful finish from Ryan Feutz. Nice one boys!
ISPS Handa Premiership Grand Final – Eastern Suburbs vs Team Wellington
Many of last years’ Olé FA senior players and Western Suburbs First Team have spent the summer playing in the ISPS Handa Premiership for Eastern Suburbs. The boys have had an incredible season, finishing second behind Auckland City in the league. Suburbs took out their semi-final over Canterbury to progress to a final against a tough Team Wellington side.
In an entertaining and fun game of football, the Eastern Suburbs boys came out to win the ISPS Handa Premiership with a 3-0 win! A hat trick to Callum McCowatt, but an awesome team performance. Callum has also come away with the ISPS Handa Premiership Golden Boot and was awarded Player of the Match. Well done Cal!
Congratulations to our Olé FA boys, players, coaching team and staff at Eastern Suburbs for the huge win. We were all backing you down here at the academy. We hope you’re enjoying the celebrations!
