Western Suburbs is pleased to announce that Gavin Larsen has joined the club as their Development Manager.
The club is thrilled to have secured Gavin who has a break from his Blackcaps selector duties during the April to September months and he will join the club fulltime through that period and will continue to play a role through the summer months too.
Larsen was previously CEO of Cricket Wellington for four years, and was Sponsorship Manager for the National Bank and ANZ for seven years prior to that. Dean Eagar the Western Suburbs Chairman said, “Gavin’s business skills and general sporting acumen will be invaluable as we look to move our club forward. We are looking to secure new revenue opportunities and also strategically position the club for the future and we know Gavin will play a big part in achieving this.”
Larsen, who is known for his cricketing exploits is no stranger to football though. “I’ve always been a football tragic and follow closely the game both locally and globally. I played rep footy through my youth years and then had two seasons of Central League football for North Wellington in my late teens. My Dad was a National League player for Wellington Diamond United, and my father-in-law was a semi-professional player in England. I coached my son Corey through his younger years, and was Manager of the Wellington College First XI when Corey was in that team for three seasons. And I love seeing Liverpool doing well!”
He has recently moved in to the Western Suburbs area having purchased a new home in Aotea with his wife Karen. “I’m extremely keen to connect to the wider Porirua community through my work with Wests. I really believe that Wests are a club with a massive future, a bit of a sleeping giant really. They are one of Wellington’s biggest clubs membership wise, they have a young and successful 1st team, and have great structures and programmes for all players right down to the great Mighty Midgets on Sunday mornings. They have an exciting future for sure.”
Larsen begins his role with Wests this week.
