Olé F.A. Newsletter | March – April 2017

Hello!

Welcome to Olé Football Academy’s March – April newsletter. It’s been an exciting month here in Porirua, New Zealand! The club football season is underway. Olé – All Whites in the news. Olé – Swedish connections galore. Olé T.V. Episode #1. The Western Suburbs Men’s Central League and Capital Premier teams both off to fantastic starts in their respective leagues.

Please check out the below announcements with appropriate hyperlinks as always.

Enjoy!

Ryan Thomas Scores Double In World Cup Qualifier: RT30 gave the Young Olé boys and girls reason to cheer in New Zealand’s 2 – 0 win over Fiji. Ryan’s first goal was a routine ripper into the bottom left corner, followed by a glancing header for number two. Read how Ryan has “redefined what is possible from young Kiwis in the northern hemisphere.”

Congratulations To “Our Partner” Team Wellington: After perhaps the most exciting and dramatic game in New Zealand premiership history, Team Wellington went on to win the 2017 Stirling Sports Premiership in a 2 – 1 win over Auckland City. Congratulations @José Figueira, Peter Becker and the Team Wellington players on an epic season.

Attention: Join the Olé staff and Western Suburbs Men’s 1st and 2nd teams at 2:00 pm this Sunday, April 16th (Dave Farrington Park) as we cheer on #TeeDubs in the 2nd leg semi-final of O-League competition against New Caledonia’s AS Magenta. Entrance for all Young Olé 1, 2, and 3 players is free. Wear any club t-shirt, NZ or worldwide and be eligible to win a signed TW shirt.

Olé Swedish Connections: Tyler Lisette a.k.a. “Yogi Bear” made his professional debut in IFK Värnamo’s 4 – 0 victory over Ådvidaberg. In other Swedish news, Olé F.A. Apprentice Aaron Jones recently signed a contract with Swedish Division 1 club Angelholms FF. Jones has already been appointed team captain during his short time at the club. Read more about the Olé Apprentice Programme and what previous apprentice staff are up to now!

Välkommen Calle: A BIG WELCOME TO UEFA A qualified coach Calle Vredin. Calle joins Olé from his previous role as Club Director of Ulricehamns IFK. Calle recently visited Barcelona FC’s academy and also visited with TOVO academy director, Todd Beane, son – in – law of the late Johan Cruyff, where they discussed youth football pedagogy and philosophy. Check out The Beane Blog for informative content regarding youth football development. Please feel free to come by the Olé staff offices and introduce yourself to Calle. Let’s make this Swede feel at home.

Billingsley is Back: The last Olé player prior to Thomas to score in Westpac Stadium was New Zealand U-20 International Noah Billingsley. Noah recently returned to Western Suburbs F.C. for the Men’s Central League Season. We look forward to also welcoming back Mohammad “Pedro” Awad, Kyle Adams and Andrew Withers from their respective NCAA Division 1 schools for the Men’s Central League Season.

South Auckland Elite to Olé: Next week SAE Technical Director, Mark Atkinson and 40 players from South Auckland Elite will be back on the Olé campus for the third consecutive year. We look forward to welcoming the staff and players and further indoctrinating them in The Olé Way #theoléway.

Olé Merchandise – Fashion T’s: Young Olé player Dominic Wooldridge has designed a number of “fashionable as” Olé Football Academy shirts. Keep an eye out for pre-order forms in the near future. “Don’t Eat The Marshmallow” wristbands are also back in style for 2017, this time; however, sporting the phrase “SHIVER – SNAP – SQUEEZE.”

Mentorship Programme: All Young Olé 1 and 2 players will soon be paired with a Young Olé mentor. We will be asking mentors to connect with mentees on a number of digital communication platforms (Social Media, Email, Phone, etc…). If you have any concerns regarding the mentorship programme and your Young Olé 1 or 2 player, please do let us know.
